Sylvia Dawn Smith Marburger, 87, of Columbus, Texas passed away on July 16, 2021, after an extended illness.

Sylvia was born in Houston on July 18, 1933, to John and Mary (Danek) Smith. She attended Jefferson Davis High School in Houston before going to work and meeting her husband, Cecil. They were married on May 29, 1954, and lived in Galveston where Cecil completed his medical training before moving to Columbus in 1959. They remained happily married for 67 years.

In Columbus, they raised their three children. Sylvia became active in the Garden Club, a bridge group, the Volunteer Ambulance Corp, and many other community activities.

Sylvia is survived by her husband Cecil, son Byron and his wife Rebecca, daughter Brenda Anderson and her husband Dale, grandchildren Colin, Mason, Miles, Elizabeth, and Price, and great-grandchildren Sawyer and Ryce.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary, her brother, Frank Scott, and her son Robert Cecil “Bobby” Marburger, Jr.

There will be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with a reception to follow at the Stafford Opera House. Rev. John Hunsicker, Rev. Alan Kethan and Deacon Sandye Fletcher will be officiating. Services under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home.

Honorary Pallbearers are Colin Marburger, Mason Marburger, Miles Marburger, Elizabeth Anderson, Price Anderson, Rosie Clarkson, and Lorene Gates.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 267, Columbus, Texas 78934, or the charity of your choice.
