Marvin George Schley, of Fayetteville, passed away in Houston Mar. 13 at the age of 74. He was born in La Grange on Feb. 23, 1946 to Emil Stephen Schley, Sr. and Irene (Schmidt) Schley.

Marvin graduated from high school in Fayetteville and from the age of 16, Marvin worked at the Columbus Livestock Commission. He loved his work with nurse cows, which he did for 46 years and hauled livestock for many people. He married Maurine Kretzschmar July 22, 1972 and together they worked as a team, farming and ranching. Work was their life, their hobby and their vacation.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Irene Schley.

His wife of 47 years, Maurine Schley of Fayetteville; sister Ora Nell S. Mahlmann and husband Clarence of Nelsonville and brothers Emil Schley, Jr. and wife Mary of Fayetteville, and Clarence Schley and wife Annalee of Fayetteville survive Marvin.

Funeral service was Tuesday, Mar. 17 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 N. Rusk in Fayetteville with Pastor Marcia Kifer officiating. Visitation was Monday, Mar. 16 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, and at church on prior to the funeral. Burial followed at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Frelsburg.

Serving as pallbearers: Brad Hauerland, Mike Kuenkel, Dusty Bernshausen, RJ Hoffman, Todd Fritsch and Edward Wilde.

Serving as honorary pallbearers: Larry Vasek, Gerald Heintschel, Freddie Darden, David Bertsch, Glenn Bertsch and Steven Bertsch.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 N. Rusk St., Fayetteville, TX 78940 or Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter, 240 Svoboda Ln., La Grange, TX 78935.
