74 years and counting
74 years and counting
Merrill and Elaine Luman first married August 8, 1950 at the exciting age of 21. 74 years letter and these two love birds are as strong as ever. Merrill and Elaine Luman had two sons, Preston and Sean Luman as well as three grandkids. First living in the Houston area, Merrill moved to Columbus to start a community choir, while Elaine focused on researching and helping others place historical markers on their homes. When not helping others place historical markers on their homes, Elaine made a long career helping her community in another way by being a high school counselor. Merrill Luman worked in the Southern Baptist church as well. Please join us as we not only celebrate two individuals for an outstanding accomplishment but we also recognize the overall commitment, love, faith and sacrifice that it took to sub-stain something so beautiful for so long. From everyone here at the Colorado County Citizen, Congratulations on 74 years Elaine and Merrill Luman. 08/09/2023 12:00 AM

Lady Cards volleyball looking for third straight deep playoff run
The Lady Cards’ volleyball team is coming off of a deep postseason run to the state semifinals, their second deep playoff run in a row. With many players returning after competing in both playoff runs, the Lady Cards have a battle- tested group that are hoping to finally reach the Finals after falling just short to the eventual state champions in both years; first against Bushland and then against Gunter last season. Ironically, those two teams have met each other in the State Championship game in each of those seasons. Columbus is hoping to have a big season to prevent a thirdstraight matchup between Gunter and Bushland and potentially secure the Lady Cards’ first state championship. 08/02/2023 12:00 AM

Weimar Wildcat football seeks postseason play in 2023
The Weimar Wildcat varsity football team made a name for themselves in Head Coach Wade Griffin’s first year by playing a physical, ground-and-pound style that was built to wear down their opponents. The result was an offensive attack that was much more effective than their 2021 season as they had several big running performances and increased their win total by one to 3-7 in 2022. This season, Griffin and the Wildcats will be looking to make a much bigger jump to finish higher in the district standings and attempt to secure a spot in the UIL postseason. 08/02/2023 12:00 AM
