The scholarship program of Columbus Garden Club began in the year 2000. The club has since awarded one or more scholarships annually to a local high school senior. Through the years the quilts have been made as a work of love and talent by Sharon Heimann a longtime educator and coach. This year’s queensized quilt is called April Blossoms and has been won by dedicated garden club member Sharon Wegenhoft.
Read moreColorado County Office of Emergency Management and the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department were notified this past Friday that our departments would be the recipients of the Wink-To-Webster Good Neighbor Grant Program. Both departments had made application to the program that is geared toward training and supporting First Responders in communities where their pipelines are located. Wink-to-Webster Pipeline Company Representative Luke Legate contacted both departments this past Friday and presented the awards at the Colorado County Service Facility.
Read moreCourt St. Roch of Mentz No. 2328 Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) made year-end donations to several nonprofits in the area. CDA also presented each teacher and staff member at St. Anthony Catholic School with $100 in cash to be used at their discretion for supplies in their classroom. CDA Members that are teachers within the Columbus Independent School District also each received $100 in cash. This is a project that CDA has done for the last several years and holds it very near and dear to their hearts. Read moreOn Saturday, Dec. 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Santa Claus will swing through Columbus. He won’t be on his sleigh, but instead on a red fire truck stopping by the Saturdays On the Square market to visit all the little (and big) kiddos who want to see him. There will be a large rocking chair for Santa and two small rocking chairs for kids to talk with the big guy. Everyone can dress up for this occasion.
