Eagle Lake resident Christina Castle Williams gave a presentation on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during a virtual MLK Day program hosted by the City of Eagle Lake and the City’s Parks and Recreation Coordinator Angela Spencer Monday, Jan. 17. In person MLK Day events for Columbus and Eagle Lake were canceled because of the increased number of COVID cases recently.

A tradition since 1938, the annual parade celebrates Western heritage and marks the beginning of the Rodeo season. “Cody Johnson is a great friend of the Rodeo and has become a fan-favorite among RODEOHOUSTON fans, making him the perfect candidate to lead our parade as grand marshal,” said Chris Boleman, Rodeo president and CEO. “From riding on horseback in our parade to performing on the RODEOHOUS- TON stage on opening day, we’re excited for Cody to be a huge part of our 90th anniversary festivities.”

The Friends group raised a total of $33,325 as a result of a donation letters sent to supporters from the previous auctions and Benefit Drawing ticket sales. Due to COVID precautions, the Friends group has not hosted an in-person fundraising event the past two years. “Hopefully we will be able to continue with this tradition in 2022”, says Librarian Vicki Powers.
