Journalists have the same access to courthouses and court records as other members of the public. This access is governed by a mix of federal laws, federal judicial policy, and circuit or district courts’ local rules and practices.The news media is one of the foremost agents for government openness in American society, which is the primary reason why The Citizen publishes police and court records. While these IVD post judgement cases and the names of those involved are public record, these are not normally cases published by The Citizen in the court reports.

A top legislative priority for the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN), the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act establishes basic standards of shelter and care for dogs left outdoors and clarifies existing law to promote the safety of animals and the people around them. The Governor vetoed a previous version of the bill during the regular session but added it to the third special session agenda in September. THLN worked in coordination with the Governor's office to address the items in the veto proclamation in the new version of the bill.
Read moreAUSTIN – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a $290 million statewide opioid settlement agreement with Johnson & Johnson to resolve opioid-related claims. The agreement will largely track the terms of the Global Prescription Opioid Litigation Settlement Agreement that was announced July 23. According to the settlement, Johnson & Johnson has agreed to pay $291,841,754.89 into the Qualified Settlement Fund, representing Texas’s allocation of the Global Abatement Settlement.
