The Live Oak Center in Columbus will be the site of a town hall meeting that is drawing top officials’ representatives to attend. Representatives from the offices of Senator Ted Cruz, Congressman Mike McCaul, and Texas State Representative Ben Leman will be attending the Citizens of Colorado County, town hall meeting. The meeting is Thursday, July 22 at 5:30 p.m. at 1014 Milam Street.

Buddy and Charlene Anderson of Columbus volunteered their time and energies to create the swim team with an eye on eventually being introduced into the school system as a competitive sport. Twenty-two kids signed up for the first year, over 50 kids the second year, and ever since, it has maintained a steady stream of swimmer athletes.

Read moreOn July 15 at approximately 2 p.m., the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Hwy 71 East. According to reports, the vehicle struck an abandoned refrigerator in the middle of the road. As a result of the collision, the vehicle caught fire and was a total loss. Assisting on the scene were Colorado County S.O. and DPS. Fortunately, no injuries were reported at the time.

Eagle Lake is set to receive $935,887, an increase from the estimated $800,000 the city anticipated getting from the American Rescue Plan, City Manager Melissa Landin said. The American Rescue Plan provides $350 billion dollars in emergency funding for state, local, territorial and Tribal governments to help remedy the mismatch between rising costs and falling revenues.

Eagle Lake City Manager Melissa Landin reported that she was notified of the crash at approximately 8:24 a.m. Saturday morning. The plane came to a halt in a ditch parallel to the airport runway.
