The eighth annual Zach’s Hope: Curing Childhood Cancer Relay is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10. The event is in memory of Zach Peters, son of Leonard and Sheri Peters of Columbus. Zach was a Columbus High School student who lost a yearlong battle with Ewings Sarcoma, a rare childhood bone cancer.

Read moreDespite the pandemic and a less than normal on-the-grounds turnout, St. Roch Catholic Church hosted their 166th annual church picnic Sunday, Oct. 4 in Mentz. The drive-thru hummed along while good food and good fellowship also took place under the openair pavilion. A brisk and lively auction featured the usual handmade goodies that brought unusually high bids. Although there were no official outdoor activities for the kiddies, there was a great game of volleyball being played by some of the kids in attendance. Citizen
