Today I am feeling purple, a color associated with boldness and royalty, two things that I have found since I joined Texas ChalleNGe Academy. I didn’t always feel purple though. I grew up with a lot of anger and sadness. To start, my parents were never married, and when I was five, my mom moved us from Maryland to Texas overnight, and we arrived on Christmas Eve. I remember thinking it was a pleasant gift, but then sometime later, my father followed, and that began my time of feeling alone.

As we watched the crowds, the corteges, and the Royal Family, little could we have imagined that here near Eagle Lake, on the edge of the Texas prairie, was a British colony of emigrants who came to Texas to seek a new life for themselves and their families. Yes, England was here at the edge of Colorado County.
