Historical commission hears history of New Bielau-Content School

    Former students of the New Bielau-Content School were on hand for the meeting of the Colorado County Historical Commission on Wednesday to help deliver a program to the Commission on the history of the school. NEW BIELAU — The Colorado County Historical Commission met on Thursday, March 21 at the New Bielau-Content Community Center in New Bielau. The meeting was conducted by Ken Stavinhoa, Chairmant of the Commission, who introduced the program for the evening, “A Living History of the New Bielau-Content School.”

Gene Gardner, President of the New Bielau-Content Community Association, discussed the physical history of the property and the building, purpose of the Center and the services that the Center provides to the community.

Gardner then introduced six former students of the New Bielau-Content School, Doris Beken Albright, Elsie Otto Kalden, Elliot Koehn, E. Dale Koehn, Reuben Otto, and Lornette Stech Beken Schoeneberg.

The former students gave a very interesting program about their experiences while attending the school. The school was built in 1925 and closed in 1948.

The oldest former student present was Doris Beken Albright (94 years young) who graduated from the New Bielau School in 1940.
