Leon W. Herring was inducted into the U.S. Air Force on December 7, 1942, at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio at 19 years of age during World War II. He was transferred to a supply unit at Stinson Field, San Antonio, for replacement parts fro P-47-P51 fighter planes.
