Late last week, schools throughout Colorado County began announcing closures amid coronavirus (COVID-19) precautionary measures implemented statewide.
Columbus ISD announced Friday, Mar. 13 that their campuses will be closed Mar. 16 - 23.
The CISD website states, “ALL CISD facilities are closed to students, parents, the public and all but a few employees who will be needed to plan and help disinfect until March 23, 2020. This includes all campuses, the field house and the track. We apologize for this inconvenience, however, we are taking extreme precaution. Until March 30, 2020, there will be no UIL contests. Also until further notice there will be no organized practices for any sport or event.”
‘Grab and go’ meals available for CISD students
On Monday, Mar. 16, Columbus ISD issued the following statement:
“Beginning Tuesday, March 17, any CISD student can come to the Columbus Junior High Campus to receive a lunch for that day and a breakfast for the next morning. These meals will be passed out between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. If a parent comes by to pick a meal up for their child, the child must be with the parent. These meals are prepared as a grab and go meal. At this time the district is unsure of how long we will be closed, therefore we plan on feeding our students Monday-Friday until we re-open.
Parents and students, CISD is planning a way to offer online instruction. We need to provide some training to our teachers so that this can be as seamless as possible. We anticipate beginning online instruction some time next week, if we are still out of school. Please complete the linked survey in order to determine who has internet, wi-fi and how many devices (smart phones, tablets iPads, Chromebooks, lap tops, etc.) This will help us determine where we need to focus our resources. Here is the link to the survey: https://forms.gle/ZUcQzqypXcFa8uAAA
Please complete this survey by midnight on Saturday, March 21. Parents and students, thank you for your patience during this trying time.”
