Eagle Lake city council voted to move one step closer to a $0.72622 per $100 valuation of property tax rate at their Aug. 13 meeting. This is the highest property tax rate the city can adopt without calling an election.
Council also approved Aug. 27 and Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. as the public hearing dates for the tax increase proposal and proposed 2019-2020 fiscal year budget.
Airport project update
City Manager Gary Broz updated council on the airport capital improvement project.
The Eagle Lake Regional Airport has been undergoing almost $2 million worth of improvements over the past year, including an extension of one runway by 400 feet. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Following closed session, working a four percent salary increase into the proposed budget was approved for the city manager.
