The annual Paul Weido Memorial Shop with a Cop event took place Tuesday, Dec. 17 at the Columbus Walmart. Columbus Police Chief Skip Edman said, “ We had 30 kids and over 30 officers participate Tuesday, it was incredible. Columbus PD, Colorado County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS, Game Wardens, Colorado County Constable No. 1, Houston PD, Schulenburg PD, and Weimar PD participated. We couldn’t have pulled it off without these great people. Thank you to the Boys and Girls Club, and especially Laura Weido.” Weido, a Columbus resident, graduated from Texas A&M University Police Academy in 1987. His career in law enforcement started with the Colorado County Sheriff’s Department, and he joined Houston Police Department in 1989. He served as a Sergeant with the Houston Police Department until his passing Dec. 11, 2018.
