Herbert Aschenbeck, 89, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021, in Columbus, Texas. He was born to Tillie (Meyer) and Alfred Aschenbeck on May 21, 1932, in Frelsburg. On June 19, 1932, he was baptized by Pastor O. Lindenburg at Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg and was confirmed on July 21, 1946, by Reverend Paul Fisher.

As a child, Herbert attended Herman Seminary school in Frelsburg. He served his country in the United States Army from 1955-1956. He was honorably discharged in 1956 to come home to care for his mother. He married Lillie Mae Thielemann on December 14, 1957. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last year.

During his life, he was a cattle rancher and also raised hogs and chickens on his ranch outside of Frelsburg. He was awarded Conservation Farmer of the Year for Colorado County in 1979. He attended church services at Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council many times. He was an active member of the Frelsburg Fire Department for 37 years. Herbert was a member of the Advisory Water Board, Farmers Home Administration, and served as an election judge in Frelsburg. His favorite hobby was deer hunting. He was always found lending a helping hand to neighbors, whether it was sharing vegetables from his huge garden or just calling to check up on them. He loved talking to everybody around and spending time with his family.

Herbert is survived by his wife Lillie Mae; three children, Ronnie and his wife Dawn, Debbie Sinclair and husband David, and Tammy Ruether and husband Kevin; six grandchildren, Kelsey Spencer and husband Cameron, Ethan Aschenbeck and wife Cas sandra, Nathan Sinclair and wife Katie, Morgan Sinclair, Brenna Ruether, and Meagan Ruether; sister Lillie Weishuhn, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Leona Weishuhn, and brothers-in-law, Leroy and Lester Weishuhn.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home. On Thursday, August 19, 2021, the funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg, with Pastor Jill Vivroux officiating. Graveside to follow at Kaiser Cemetery in Frelsburg.

Pallbearers are Ethan Aschenbeck, Nathan Sinclair, Cameron Spencer, Glenn Weishuhn, Darren Weishuhn, and Lance Tigrett.
