Janie Rose Kulhanek Hammonds, 59, of Columbus, Texas, passed away on August 10,2021 in El Campo, Texas.

She was born on July 28, 1962, to Joe A. and Rose (Simek) Kulhanek in Eagle Lake, Texas, and lived most of her life in Columbus, Texas where she graduated from Columbus High School in 1980. She married the love of her life, Bobby Lee Hammonds.

Janie worked as a Human Resource Coordinator at Columbus Community Hospital for 31 years. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church in Mentz. Her fondest times were spent with Bobby in South Texas hunting dove and quail and spending time with their friends. They also enjoyed shopping for antiques on their many trips.

Janie spent hours on weekends playing her favorite board games such as Wahoo, Trouble, and Sequence with family and friends, and she enjoyed watching movies on the Hallmark Channel.

Many of her friends and relatives would travel all over the area with her to try new restaurants. Many enjoyable times were had on these adventures. They found any occasion to celebrate just to go share meals together.

Devotion and high morals, strength, resilience describe Janie when it came to her being a wife, a daughter, a sister, aunt, friend, and an employee. She enjoyed spending time with her great-nieces and nephews and her extended family. There were games, tea parties, and numerous birthday parties to celebrate. The kids all loved spending time with their Aunt Janie.

Janie is survived by her brothers Gabriel Kulhanek and wife, Paula of El Campo, Tx, Gary Kulhanek and wife, Michelle of Columbus, Tx., sister Kathy Muegge and husband, Lance of Bryan, Tx., nieces and nephews; Josh and Jessica Kulhanek of El Campo, Tx., Chad Kulhanek and wife, Bailey of Columbus, Tx., Ryan Kulhanek and wife Mandi of Columbus, Tx., Sean Kulhanek and fiancée, Katy Birkelbach of Richmond, Tx., Shelby and London Muegge of Dallas, Tx., great-nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bobby Hammonds and her parents Joe A. and Rose Kulhanek.

Visitation was held Tuesday, August 17, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at St. Roch Catholic Church in Mentz, Texas. A rosary was held at 1:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Wayne Flagg officiating. The Rite of Committal and burial followed at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus, Texas.
