Tina Luree (Scott) Barten, age 62, passed away in Columbus on Thursday, Nov. 4. She was born to Jim Ford Scott and Julia Elizabeth (Robinson) Scott in Houston Feb. 9, 1959. On Nov. 20, 1979, she married Noel Joe Barten.

Tina worked as a teacher’s aide and bus driver for Columbus ISD for 25 years before retiring in 2020. She loved her family, church family, traveling with her sister, shopping, and watching her kids and grandkids play sports.

But, above all she loved Jesus.

Tina got her love for traveling from her parents. As a child, they traveled the country attending camp meetings and revivals and visiting vacation spots along the way.

In her free time, Tina enjoyed traveling to watch her kids and grandkids play sports. She was fortunate enough to have made the trip from Texas to New Mexico and then into Seattle, WA to watch two of her granddaughters play in the Junior Softball World Series in Kirkland, WA, once in 2013 and again in 2019. She was the ultimate multi-sport cheering Nana and will be remembered for almost always being in the stands cheering her babies on.

She looked forward to her summers off when she would travel with her sister to their favorite vacation spot in Colorado. They would sight see, shop, eat out and just relax. She was blessed with the opportunity this past summer, to travel to West Virginia for an old-fashioned camp meeting she has not been able to attend in over 20 years. She made that memorable trip with not only her sister, but her daughters, Tressa and Stephany, as well.

Her favorite things were family, church, bible studies, camp meetings, and revivals. She loved gospel music and reading and studying the word of God. Her true passion was her relationship with Christ. She will be most remembered for living out the scriptures in her day to day life and the mighty prayers she prayed for her family and friends.

Tina was preceded in death by her father, Jim Ford Scott.

Tina is survived by: her husband of 41 years, Noel Joe Barten; mother, Julia Scott of Rock Island; daughters Tressa Lenae (Barten) Alley and husband John of Alleyton, Stephany Marie Barten of Glidden, and Charity Molina and partner J.P. of Houston; sons Noel Brett Barten and wife Rachel of Sheridan, and Heath Jared Barten and wife Ashley of Rock Island; sister Susan Taylor and husband Andrew of Rock Island; brother, Mike Scott and wife Patricia of Rock Island; grandchildren Rayne Molina, Natalie Alley, Donovan Alley, Kayli Alley, Rhilyn Barten, Westyn Barten, Jordan Perez, Alexa Barten, Tyce Barten, Emmy Jo Barten, Bentley Byrd, Bryce Byrd and Quinnin Camacho; and great grandchild, Avery Fisher.

Funeral service will be Thursday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Martin officiating. A visitation will be held from 1- 2 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Myrtle Cemetery in Rock Island.
