Victor Samuel Bedford of Columbus, passed away at the age of 72 Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15

He was born on Mar. 14, 1949, in Houston to James (Sam) and Mary (Montalbano) Bedford. On Apr. 21, 1978 he married the love of his life Ruth Blackstock. They lived in the Houston area until 1993 and then moved to Columbus where they built by hand their forever home.

Victor could be defined by his work ethic and determination. He retired from National Oil Well Varco as Director/Manager in 2015. His work in health, safety, and environmental took him all over the world. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as a Stephens Minister. He also served with Men in Mission and on the usher team. Victor touched the lives of many people with his heart of compassion. He loved building homes for those in need as a part of Colorado County Habitat for Humanity. Victor believed in neighbor helping neighbor and community service, often making anonymous monetary contributions and physically pitching in where needed. He loved fishing, camping and traveling with family and friends.

Victor is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ruth; his three children Victor Bedford, Jr. and wife Chris,

Angela McHatton and husband Douglas, and Amy Peters and husband Chris; 9 grandchildren; his twin brother, Sylvester Bedford and wife Charlotte Tilotta; his sister Shirley Pitzer and husband Benny; stepsister Barbara Trask and husband Tom; and stepbrother Jim Bedford and wife Belva. He is also survived by Ruth’s family: Bernie Blackstock; Clarence Blackstock and wife Linda; Sally Bice and husband Jim Alston; Vergie Dreher and husband Leon; Elsie Hathorn and husband Bill; and Barbara Blackstock. Victor is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and Ruth’s family members: Gus Blackstock, Jr., Lloyd Blackstock, Grace Crawford, Elizabeth Molton, and Judy Henthorn.

Visitation with the family was scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Columbus. Funeral service for Victor was held at 10 a.m. at the church. After burial at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery Columbus, refreshments followed at the church fellowship hall.

Pallbearers were Brent Gorman, David Fleig, Scott Mattingly, Gary Chandler, Terrell Maertz, James Keith Hardy, Jed Dreher, and Keith Dreher.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Victor’s honor to be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church P.O. Box 267 Columbus, Texas 78934; Colorado County Habitat for Humanity 602 Walnut Columbus, Texas 78934 or the charity of your choice.
