Jean Crelia, 89, of Columbus, passed away on Aug. 18 in Houston. Jean was born on Nov. 1, 1931, to William and Trula Moore in Telephone.

On Mar. 13, 1954, she married Edward Layton Crelia. Jean and Ed resided in Columbus. They were blessed with 67 years of marriage, three children and six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.

Jean was a devout Christian and loved her God with all her heart. She had an amazing spirit for volunteering and a genuine love for all humankind.

Jean was an active member of the Columbus Community Hospital Auxiliary for 44 years. She served in many roles in the organization including President for many years. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Columbus, Texas. She served various organizations within and connected to the church. Her love of Christ was truly a light that was shown for all. Jean received the award ”Citizen of the Year” from the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.

Jean loved to play games and enjoyed fellowship with friends. Some examples of this were: Sewing Club, Domino Club, and the Bunco Group. She enjoyed playing games especially when she was winning! She loved to quilt, embroider, sew and make crafts. Many people were the recipients of her talent and handiwork. She was especially proud of the baby quilts, which are distributed among family and friends.

Jean is survived by her husband Edward L. Crelia of Columbus; her son Layton Crelia of Garrison.; daughters, Regina Wicke (Russell), of Columbus, and Donna Krueger, of Frelsburg.; her loving grandchildren Jeremy Crelia (Juliah) of Appleby, Tyler Wicke (Christine) of McKinney, Sarah Stancik (John), of Port Lavaca, Dannah Krueger (Rolly) of San Antonio, Lacy Teran (Orly) of Highlands, Riley Krueger (Kaitlyn) of Frelsburg and great-grandchildren Alexandria, Noah, Logan, Titus, Madden, Kannon, Ethan, Layla, Liliana and Rex.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Marshall Moore, Hassel Moore and Wendell Moore, and sister Neva Bernethy.

A visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 21 from 5-7 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. A memorial service was Sunday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with Rev. Mark Brechin officiating.
