Darrell Ray Pagel of Eagle Lake, loving husband, father, stepfather and grandfather, passed away on Dec. 2, 2023 at the age of 56 from his battle with stomach cancer.

He was born Oct. 17, 1967 in El Campo to Raymond and Patricia Wasicek Pagel. He graduated from RCISD and spent most of his life in the trucking industry. He owned and operated several trucking companies over the years. He closed his trucking business in 2022 and went into custom harvesting and farming for himself. Farming is something he always wanted to do, and thankfully, he was able to harvest his first season’s crop before becoming ill.

Darrell was known be many in the surrounding communities. He coached Little League Softball, was active in the FFA organization, and built numerous floats for the local Christmas Parades. He loved bay fishing, being outdoors and visiting friends and family at his shop in the evenings. He could be counted on to lend a helping hand to others and was proud that he had lifelong friends from all walks of life.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Dana Pagel; daughter Katie Walcik and husband Dylan; stepson John Eric Baros and wife Marlynn; three grandsons, father Raymond Pagel, brothers Dwayne Pagel and wife Monica, Jeremy Weishuhn and wife Carissa; sisters Danette Huvar, Rachel Sunderman and husband Chad, Amanda Holifield and husband Jeff, and four nieces and fournephews. Hewas preceded in death by his mother Patricia Weishun Turner and stepfather Bobby Weishuhn.

Visitation was held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023 at Triska Funeral Home. Visitation continued to Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, from 1-2 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Nada, with a parish rosary being recited at 1:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ed Schoellmann officiating. Interment will be at Lehrer Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Triska Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers are Jon Kyle Huvar, Nick Pagel, Dylan Walcik, Eric Baros, Craig Hajovsky, and Chad Sunderman. Honorary bearers are Barry Shepard, Jerry Torres, Ronny Little, John Young, Mike Morton and Gary Obenhaus.
