Steve Frank Janish, 79, of Columbus, entered into Eternal Rest Sunday, Jan. 23.

Steve was born in Fayetteville on July 1, 1942, the son of Joe F. and Mary (Canik) Janish.

He served honorably from 1964 to 1966 in the United States Army as an Army Combat Medic.

Steve worked for 29 years as an ICU Nurse for Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Ellinger.

Steve was a gifted musician and singer. He enjoyed playing the guitar, violin, and accordion. He was the type of person that never met a stranger, and truly enjoyed taking the time to visit with folks in the community.

Steve is survived by sisters Mary Rainosek and husband, Frank of Austin; Vlasta Korenek and husband, Lawrence of Columbus; and Clara Gerik, of Fayetteville; brothers Robert Janish and wife, Evelyn of Bellville, and Joe Janish and wife, Diane of Fayetteville, eight nieces; 14 nephews, and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul Janish, Peter Janish, and Alois Janish, sisters Annie Janish and Angeline Janish, sister-in-law Charlene Janish, brother-in-law Frank Gerik, four nephews and one great niece.

A visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 26 at St. Mary Catholic Church of Ellinger. A Holy Rosary was recited that evening.

A Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, Jan. 27 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 209 E. Bell St., Fayetteville. Burial is in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers, masses may be given in Steve’s remembrance.
