Jerry Joe Faldyn, age 90, passed away on July 27, 2022, in Columbus, Texas. He was born to Joseph Faldyn and Mary (Zatopek) Faldyn on March 4, 1932, in Holman, Texas. He married Vlasta Bubela on April 27, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nada, Texas.

Jerry enjoyed taking his sons hunting and fishing. He spent many years as a dragline operator for gravel companies in the area. Jerry served in the United States Army from 1948 – 1952 and was discharged as a Corporal. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Columbus.

He is survived by his wife Vlasta of Columbus, daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Stephen Korenek of El Campo, son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Susan of Austin, son Stanley of Columbus, son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Yvonne of Boerne, and daughter and son-in-law Karen and Jeff Fox of Spring Branch; twelve grandchildren, Jacob Faldyn of Midland, Jeremie Faldyn of Corpus Christi, Aaron Faldyn and wife Reghan of Corpus Christi, Mackenzie Faldyn of Katy, Kailey Fox of Spring Branch, Madilyn Faldyn of Boerne, Kyra Fox of Spring Branch, Kerigan Faldyn of Columbus, Meredith Faldyn of Boerne, JJ Trachta of Boerne, Marissa and husband Christian Caruso of San Antonio, and Alexandra and husband Danny Garza of Kingsville; five great-grandchildren, Jaden Faldyn, Raelynn Faldyn, Roslyn Garza, Andres Garza, and Fischer Faldyn; sister Lillian Zapalac of Ellinger; brother Edward Faldyn and wife Helen of Columbus, sister-in-law Virginia Faldyn of New Ulm, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Patsy Bubela of El Campo, sister-in-law Joyce Bubela of Columbus, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Doris and Daniel Priesmeyer of Taiton, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Larry and Janet Bubela of Hungerford, brother-in-law Frank Miculka of East Bernard, and brother-in-law Allen Bubela of Rosenberg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jerry is preceded in death by brothers George, Johnny, Allen, Wilbert, Joe Jr., and sisters Isabelle Faldyn, Vlasta Vaclavik, and Georgia Belota.

Visitation was held Monday, August 1, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus followed by a parish prayer service and rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral mass was held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation at church was from 9 to 10 a.m. The funeral service was officiated by Fr. Augustine N. Asante. Burial followed in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.

Pallbearers included grandsons Jacob Faldyn, Jeremie Faldyn, and Aaron Faldyn, and nephews Mark Faldyn, Arthur Faldyn, Patrick Bubela, and James Priesmeyer. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters.
