Robert Edward Krenek, Sr., 86, of Fayetteville, went to meet the Lord Friday, Nov. 13 at TLC in Columbus.
Robert was born July 30, 1934 in Fayetteville to Michael J. and Mary C. (Coufal) Krenek.
Robert was a 1953 graduate of St. John’s Catholic High School in Fayetteville. He worked in Clute after graduation, then moved back to Fayetteville and worked for the Lee Heinsohn Lumber Yard for many years.
On June 12, 1960 he married Violet D. Bernshausen at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville, by Rev. Fr. Thomas Matl.
Robert was a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 3168 in Fayetteville for over 50 years, as well as a member of SPJST for 60 years.
He owned the Krenek Lumber Yard in Fayetteville for 16 years. Later, Robert worked for National Flange and Fitting in Bellville, Simmons Lumber Company in Columbus, and then worked for LCRA for 25 years until his retirement.
Many will remember Robert as a hard worker, a talented handy man, and true friend. He enjoyed spending time outside working on various projects around his farm. Often you would see him driving the farm truck with his dog by his side. Robert deeply loved his family and cherished the time spent with all of his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed traveling with Violet on many fun-filled vacations.
His survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Violet; sons Brendan Krenek and wife, Pam of Waco, and Robert Krenek, Jr. and wife, Pam of Houston; daughters Sheila Fernald and husband, Sidney of Mission, and Suzanne Krause and husband, Calvin of Round Top; grandchildren Melissa Chasteen and husband, Jeff of Cleburne, Gary Krenek and wife, Amanda of Waco, Kyle Krenek and wife, Saoirse of Houston, Mitchell and Jenna Krenek, both of Houston, Shelby, Shawn and Stewart Fernald all of Mission, and Madison, Megan, and Mallory Krause of Round Top; great-grandchildren Charlotte and Hannah Chasteen and Jordan Krenek, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, beloved pets and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Alvin Krenek and wife, Dorothy, Daniel Krenek and wife, Ruth, Jerry Krenek and wife, Lillie, and Leroy Krenek, and his baby sister, Frances Krenek.
In an abundance of caution due to the recent COVID-19 operating procedures, the family will be following the recommendations of the Governor and County Judge. The funeral home asks that facemasks be worn in the funeral home as well as social distancing up to six feet apart.
Visitation was Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Koenig – Belvill Funeral Home and Cremations in La Grange. A rosary was recited at 6 p.m.
Funeral services were Wednesday Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville, officiated by Rev. Fr. Steven Sauser. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Fayetteville.
