Doris Mae Poppe, 92, of Columbus, Texas, passed away on August 24, 2022 in Columbus, Texas.

She was born on September 17, 1929, to Monroe Persky and Hilma (Glaeser) Persky on the Hubert Rinn farm in Industry, Texas. On June 18, 1949 she married George A. Poppe.

Doris worked as a receptionist for many years before retiring to become a full- time housewife. In 1967, she received a grateful appreciation plaque for her faithful service rendered to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was very active in the Mary-Martha Circle. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. Doris was a member of the German Society and Texas Sportsman.

Doris enjoyed cutting the rug with the love of her life George. They belonged to numerous dance clubs throughout the years and made many friends in dance halls around the community. They also spent weekends meeting with many good friends to play dominos and visit family whenever possible.

Doris is survived by her sons Glenn Poppe and wife Sandra of Pleasanton and Michael Poppe and wife Sharon of Katy; brother Lee Allen Persky of Bellville; grandchildren Heath Poppe and wife Jennifer, Samantha Rakowitz and husband Patrick, Shonda McClain and husband Frank, Kendra Heider and husband Austin, and Hayden Poppe and wife Claire; and great-grandchildren Brooks Poppe, Brody Poppe, Ace Ingram, Rylee Ingram, Ash Manguso, Kaylee Besselman, Katelyn McClain, Kassie McClain, Kaydence Heider, and Emery Heider.

She was preceded in death by her parents Monroe and Hilma Persky, and her husband George A. Poppe.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus, Texas. Pastor Alan Kethan will be officiating. Visitation at church will be from 9 to 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus, Texas. Pallbearers are Heath Poppe, Hayden Poppe, Patrick Rakowitz, Frank McClain, Austin Heider, Brooks Poppe, Brody Poppe, and Ace Ingram. Honorary pallbearers are all the grandchildren.
