Mary Ann Cowling of Weimar is the most recent person in Colorado County to benefit from HFH’s crusade. On Aug. 5, Cowling and her loved ones celebrated at the Colorado County HFH office with a symbolic Mortgage Burning Party. A fire pit was made, and Cowling physically burned a paper that represented her financial obligations to her housing that she repaid through “sweat-equity” and the hard work that comes with building a home.
