Jerry Wente, resident of Colorado County, converted his regular garden into container gardening in an effort to help the environment by finding ways to use the many plastic pots he had on hand. This keeps them out of the dump by reusing them in other ways. Container gardening also saves water by being able to direct water where he wants it by utilizing drip irrigation.

When Columbus Garden Club members realized that they were not going to be able to have their regularly scheduled meeting in April and then May, or have their planned flower show, or their annual plant sale, they knew that this was truly an extraordinary time. After all, when had a regular monthly meeting ever been cancelled? And there’s been an annual plant sale every year since 1992!

Read moreAUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) announced Apr. 24 that Texas will provide HOME Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) to Texans experiencing housing challenges due to COVID-19. These TBRA funds have been made possible through a series of waivers recently authorized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These waivers give Texas the flexibility needed to provide assistance to Texans in need. Governor Abbott and TDHCA initially requested these federal waivers on April 1st.
