Read moreIt’s football playoff time and the Columbus Cardinas traveled to Conroe for their Bi-District showdown against the Rockdale Tigers last week. The Cardinals hit on all cylinders offensively, and senior Quarterback No.10 Ty Thomas completed 7 of his 12 pass attempts for 121 yards with 2 touchdown passes. His first TD connection was a 52-yard bomb to senior wide receiver No.4 Ryan Barnes and then later Thomas connected with senior receiver No.11 Carson Wray for a floating 25-yard TD reception. Senior running back No.2 Kion Hurd continued to show opposing defenses why he’s one of the best backs in the state with his bruising running style. Hurd tallied up 132 yards on 19 carries, and was a menace defensively, bullying the Tigers throughout Friday night’s contest. Freshman running back No.20 Tyvone Whitehead got in on the action as well, displaying his electric elusiveness. Whitehead finished with 103 yards on 7 carries and 2 touchdowns. The Columbus defense played their best game yet, forcing 3 Tiger turnovers with Ryan Barnes picking off two interceptions and junior defensive back No.21 Isiah Albright causing a turnover of his own taking it in for a Cardinal six, and the Cardinals returned home with a 42-15 win.
