AUSTIN – Attorney General Ken Paxton Sept. 17 announced a settlement agreement with PEAKS Trust, a private loan program run by ITT Tech and affiliated with Deutsche Bank entities, granting over $27 million in debt relief to former ITT students in Texas. This is the second settlement of its kind in just two years. In June 2019, Attorney General Paxton participated in a $168 million settlement with Student CU Connect CUSO, resulting in debt relief for 18,664 former ITT students.

Read moreAUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott last week held a press conference at the Austin Police Association where he joined other state leaders to sign the Texas Backs The Blue Pledge against defunding the police. The Governor also announced a new legislative proposal to discourage cities from defunding law enforcement. Under this proposal, cities that defund the police will lose their annexation powers, and residents in areas that have been annexed by the city will be able to vote to dis-annex from the city. Participating DL offices will offer a limited number of appointments on Sept. 19 and Sept. 26 to help Texans handle these specific transactions. The offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
