The RHS homecoming court has been named. The king will be named at the pep rally Sept. 24, and the homecoming queen will be crowned at the halftime of the game. Read moreAUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists say that 2021-22 is expected to be a white-tailed deer season for the books. Last year, the overall white-tailed deer population was estimated to be 5.4 million deer. While that estimate is down from the previous two years, TPWD biologists say that if fawn recruitment predictions hold true this season, coupled with good carryover of deer from last hunting season, hunters and landowners can expect to see an increase in the overall statewide white-tailed deer population.

Sadly, vehicle crashes and roadway fatalities have increased since the pandemic started and that is putting children more at risk as passengers in vehicles. National Child Passenger Safety Week is a good opportunity for parents to get a free car seat inspection and make sure that their children are traveling as safely as possible. Fortunately, many areas around the state are back to offering in-person car seat inspections as well as virtual car seat inspections.
Read moreThe underpass located at Fannin and Hwy 90 was closed Sept. 17 when a truck damaged it with an oversized load. Law enforcement on the scene reported a truck carrying a backhoe tried to go under the pass way. The equipment was too tall to pass safely underneath and damaged both the pass way and the railroad tracks over the pass way. TxDOT, CPD, Union Pacific and Railroad Police were on the scene.
