Sidney Louis Frey, 96, of Bernardo, passed away Dec. 23 in Bernardo.

He was born July 10, 1925 to Peter Frey and Illian (Meyer) Frey in Bernardo. On Apr. 15, 1946 he married Mary Augusta Jones.

Sidney was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1946. He worked as a service manager for Lake Motors in Eagle Lake. He then went to work for Rice ISD and was the vocational auto mechanic teacher for Rice High School. In addition he had a small farm and raised cattle.

He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 10249, the VFW and the American Legion.

Sidney loved visits from all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. One of his most enjoyable things was for he and his beloved dogs to ride on his Kubota and check the cattle and cruise the pastures. Sidney loved visiting with company that came to visit and he so enjoyed being with friends, cracking jokes and pulling pranks.

Sidney is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mary Augusta Frey; daughters Carolyn Psencik and husband Whyman and Patricia Lynn Stavinoha and husband Gary; son Earl Frey and wife Kaye; grandchildren Brian Psencik, Jori Cohen, Kim Stanley, Kristy Peikert, Cameron Frey, Hilary Wilson and Heather Krumrey; great-grandchildren Abby Psencik, Sydney Psencik, Bella Stanley, Shaw Stanley, Austin Peikert, Dylan Peikert, Jalen Wilson, Cahill Krumrey, Cavitt Krumrey, Canyon Krumrey, Casten Krumrey, Noah Frey and Deacon Frey.

He was preceded in death by his parents Peter Frey and Illian Frey.

Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 26 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. A parish prayer service and K of C rosary followed.

Funeral Service was Monday, Dec. 27 at St. Roch Catholic Church in Mentz. Visitation at church was prior to the funeral, and Fr. Bob Knippenberg officiated.

Burial took place in St. Roch Catholic Cemetery in Mentz.

Pallbearers were Maynard Ripper, Monroe Ripper, Lloyd Jones, Brian Psencik, Cameron Frey and Albert Delgado. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Kleimann, Delton Hollman, Jr., Joe Luna, John Delgado, Gary Stavinoha, Whyman Psencik, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to St. Roch Catholic Church, 1600 Frelsburg Rd., Alleyton, TX 78935, Bernardo Volunteer Fire Department, 2845 FM 949, Cat Spring, TX 78933 or charity of your choice.
