It’s an egg-cellent time of the year

Three Crosses Ministries

My dad would always tease me by asking if I had gotten my chickens yet. He had chickens for well more than I can remember. I can’t remember how many years it’s been that I’ve been trying to get chickens. I always talked about it but life seemed to get in the way. I couldn’t get my chickens until I built my chicken coop. Not just any coop, mind you. Finally, this year my Casa de Pollo has been built and my seniorita chickens are living the life of luxury.

Luckily, I obtained my chickens when they were old enough to start laying eggs. I had a lot of book learnin’ throughout the years that I had been planning my eventual foray into the world of chickenry. I don’t think that’s a real word but it sounds professional. Our precious beauties were laying several dozen a day. Our ladies have become quite popular because we have gotten a good following of customers that enjoy the fresh eggs with the very yellow yolk. However, it seems they go on strike every so often and the egg production slows down. I have to go out and give them a good talking to to encourage them to step up to the plate! Surprisingly, it works! I could pick them up and squeeze the eggs out of them but I don’t want scrambled. What goes good with eggs but a cold glass of milk? I was thinking of getting a brown cow so I could have chocolate milk. But that’s for another time.

It surprises me, even though it shouldn’t, that God’s timing is perfect. Chickens do have a laying cycle and God’s Hand is in that. Every one thing and every thing has a season. My intentions were to get my chickens years ago. I wouldn’t have been able to take care of them the way animals should be cared for when you are responsible for them. God’s Hand is in everything and His perfect time is not always our time. I have to keep reminding myself that no matter how much I try I can’t change the seasons, the hours of the day, the weather or God’s time. The only thing that I can change is how I use His time that He has given me. I have the choice to look to Him or ignore Him. I have the choice to be morally responsible or morally corrupt. I have the choice to have faith in Him or faith in Satan. By His grace He has given each of us the choice to love Him or not. We are not forced into His will but given a choice of how we are to benefit from Him and His perfect timing for each of us. You may be asking Him why you haven’t gotten that raise. You may be questioning why things happen to you that you feel shouldn’t happen. You may be wondering when your chickens are coming home to roost. It’s an egg-cellent time of year to take stock of your relationship with God. You may have been talking about it for years as I have about my chickens. There is no better time than now because no one knows how much time any one of us have here on Earth. Romans 13:11 – “And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.”
