William Neville Miekow, 88, of Columbus, passed away Dec. 31, 2021 in Columbus.

Neville was born Jan. 13, 1933 at Herman Hospital in Houston, to wonderful parents Lucile (Robinson) and W. H. Miekow. On June 15, 1974 he married Penelope Lakich.

Neville was a lifetime resident of Columbus and a proud graduate of Columbus High School and The University of Houston, where he was a member of the Army ROTC Corps of cadets, earning a commission upon graduation. Following an active duty army obligation, he was employed for over 30 years by Columbus State Bank where he was also appointed to the Board of Directors.

Neville was a member of the Rotary Club, where he served for one year as President. He was a lifelong member of St John Episcopal Church where he was elected Treasurer, a member of the Vestry and Junior and Senior Warden. Neville enjoyed long distance running. He participated in a number of 5K runs and completed three marathons in Houston and four in San Antonio. He was also an avid Columbus Cardinal football fan.

Neville is survived by his wife of 47 years, Penelope Miekow.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lucile and W. H. Miekow.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 6 from 3 – 5 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus.

Funeral Service will be Friday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. at St. John Episcopal Church in Columbus. Fr. Ray Wilson will be officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.

Neville’s father’s will created a Trust Fund to provide scholarships for graduates of Columbus High School which has since been given to Columbus ISD. Memorial contributions in Neville’s memory may be given to Columbus Education Foundation, 105 Cardinal Lane, Columbus, TX 78934.
