Cardinals who were named honorable mention were; Isaiah Albright, Donovon Alley, Trevor Berger, Trace Braden, Christian Reyna, Jayden Trapp, Trinity Thompson, Jessie Upson, Vincent Vallone and Ty’Vone Whitehead. Academic All-District was awarded as well to the following Cardinals; Wray, Barnes Albright, Pitchford, Berger, Trapp and Thompson.

Read moreThe Lady Cards soccer team went up against Hempstead and lost with a final score of 3-1 Mar. 3. The lone goal was scored by senior Nancy Hernandez on a penalty kick. Ju-nior goalkeeper Lourdes Medina Baca had seven saves. With this loss to Hempstead, the Lady Cards district record fell to 3-7 with only four games remaining to be played. “We haven’t played our best soccer over our last few games. However, we can right the ship in the final week of the season. We still have a decent chance of getting the playoff position. We’ve had a rough stretch, but we can still redeem this season if we buckle down and play like we are capable of playing. Nobody is giving up just yet,” Coach Ross Macha said.

Read moreThe Rice varsity baseball competed in the East Bernard Tournament this past weekend. They lost to Wharton, 6-0, Stafford 17-5, and Tidehaven 4-3. Although losing in the tournament, Morgan Machac was named to the all-tournament team for his pitching performance against Tidehaven with seven innings pitched (IP), two earned runs (ER), and five hits allowed (H). The Rice varsity baseball team will host the Rice/ El Campo Tournament on Wednesday, Mar. 10-13.
Read moreThe Weimar Ladycats have heated up the softball season with their recent victories. The Ladycats took the 7-3 win over Victoria West last Thursday. In their matchup against the Lady Cardinals, both teams were scoreless after one. In the fourth, the Ladycats hit back-to-back-to-back home runs by Skylar Heger, Reagan Wick and Emily Elstner to take a 9-1 lead. They added two more in the sixth to end the game at 9-3. The Ladycats also took the win against Bellville Saturday with a final 13-7 score. In the Mar. 8 Texas Girls Coaches Association State Softball Poll, the Ladycats are ranked second.
