The Weimar Wildcats’ varsity basketball team has suffered some big losses in the early season as they’ve run into defensive struggles in each of their defeats. However, they’ve been able to respond with explosive offensive performances in their victories as they’ve yet to play in a game with a final margin of less than ten. Last week was a clear example of that trend after Weimar withstood a difficult loss to Thorndale to begin the week before dominating Round Top-Carmine later in the week.

Read moreThe Columbus varsity lady basketball team have faced off against an increased level of competition this season as they have had to battle to the wire on several of their wins and have even suffered a couple of early losses. That trend continued last week after the Lady Cards secured a win against Brazos earlier in the week before going on to a trio of hard-fought games in the Calallen-hosted tournament to end the week. Ally Tribe earned All-Tournament honors for her play throughout, and the Lady Cards claimed the top spot in their pool despite suffering a loss to the host team.

Read moreThe Columbus Cardinals were just about 30 seconds away from reaching their first state semifinals round since 2019, they just needed to find one more stop from the defense as the Franklin Lions drew near the end zone. Unfortunately for the Cards, the Lions used their duo of running backs that include a D1 commit and a talented underclassman to march down the field and score with less than 30 seconds left in the game. Columbus didn’t have enough time for a proper response after as the Cards went on to suffer the 24-21 defeat to the state’s number one ranked team.
